Valley News – June 26
Not sure how that month snuck away from me. I just glanced at the calendar and see that we are in the final week of the month. Anyone else notice that?
BEAR CREEK RUNS
Word is that these summer group runs have been going quite well. There has been a nice show of attendance and several Bear Creek newbies have been learning the trail system up on the mountain. These runs will continue through the end of August on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Runs start at 6:30 pm at the upper parking lot trail kiosk. In fact, there is a group run this Thursday for any of you who are interested in joining.
Brand new to the Lehigh Valley area racing circuit is the Saucon Rail Trail 10k. The race takes place on Monday, September 3 at 8:30 am starting at Upper Saucon Park. Five year age groups with cash prizes to the top 3 overall winners (both male and female.) Amenities include a t-shirt and a Brooks tote bag or sweat towel. If registration reaches greater than 150 runners then the race will offer limited edition coolmax socks to the first 50 male and 50 female runners. Fee: $25 now through August 19.
It looks as if this weekend is rather light on the local race calendar. Nothing on the radar as far as I can tell. Perhaps it’s because everyone is saving up for those July 4th races and events. You can take part in the annual Firecracker Four Miler in Palmer Township, Revolutionary Run in Washington Crossing Historic Park (5k, 10k, and fun run), or join Peak Performance in Lehigh Parkway for their inaugural Boot Camp. All three events are pretty enticing, and a great idea to burn some calories prior to the day’s celebrations.
Of course, there is always the Olympic Trials on TV where you will watch some very exciting racing taking place. So far in the trials we’ve seen world records, a dead-heat tie, and runners rising to the challenge in front of them and earning a spot on the US Olympic Team. All of this great running is getting me even more excited for the Olympics to begin next month. How about you?
