Congratulations to everyone who raced over the past weekend. It sounds as if people had a great time at the Bald Bear Triathlon, Dirty Grizzly, Half Wit Half and Alburtis 5k.
This Thursday you can head over to Reading for the Third Thirsty Thursday 5k, a no frills race for $10.
Coming up this weekend, head south to Gilbertsville (not that far away) and run the 3rd Annual Ketchup If You Can 5k. Great prizes, giveaways and a Kids Fun Run after the 5k. Sounds like a great Saturday morning family affair.
If you are interested in getting out of town this weekend for a change of scenery, there is a FREE 5k in Maple Glen, Shirley’s Run 5k and Dog Walk. Donations are encouraged to either the Shirley Schriftman Fund for Animals or a number of animal shelters or rescue groups in the Philadelphia area, including the Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown. Or, how about this? Invite your dog along for the morning and you can both participate in the 1 mile Dog Walk. Prizes will be awarded in many categories, including Fastest dog by a nose, Last tail to finish, Longest dog, Shortest dog and Best Costume. For those of you who take your dogs along with you on your runs, this sounds like a fun event for you to share.

For all of you dog lovers out there, I want to point out another great dog event coming up in September (I will remind you again closer to the date) nearby in Reading. The 2 Mile Doggie Dash in Nolde Forest will take place on Saturday, September 11. I’ve done this race and can tell you first hand that it is a blast!
I just caught wind about another race coming up this August (thank you Michael), the Hellbender 5k & Half Marathon. The 5k costs $20 and the Half Marathon is a wopping $30. Talk about cheap! Money raised goes to the local conservation association to help promote clean water in the State Forest. Great cause, great price and a great location! (Weiser State Forest is located northwest of Pottsville.)
Two weeks ago I unveiled a message forum here on the site. I want to thank all of you who have participated in discussions and started some new ones. My hope with this website and with the forum has always been to help create a tangible community of runners here in Eastern PA. You guys and gals who have joined in the chatter, met up in person and participated in the Runner Spotlight interviews are helping to make this a reality. Thank you!
By now you should have seen yesterday’s Giveaway Contest announcement as well as the new advertisement in the right sidebar of the site. In conjunction with Allentown’s newest race, we’ll be giving away one free race entry to the Hamilton Street Mile once a week from now until September 19th. Each Sunday evening a new weekly winner will be announced and every Monday morning a new weekly contest will begin. The Hamilton Street Mile will take place on Thursday evening, September 23rd in downtown Allentown. This is going to be one smoking fast race! One mile starting at 17th & Hamilton and ending between 9th & 8th on Hamilton. There is also a High Heel Hundred meter race to be raced in heels no lower than 2½ inches high. Plus, bring the kids out for a fun time, there is also a Kids Run!!
The final LVRR Healthy Kids Active Playdate for the summer will be held this Thursday at 1:00 pm at Camp Olympic in Emmaus. It has been a great summer of hiking, running, bouldering and swimming with the parents and children who have participated and rest assured you can count on some more of the same next summer. We hope that you can make it to our final day of fun.

Finally, I thought I’d share a photo of my morning run this morning. This shot was taken at 5:45 am. Now that it’s getting dark earlier and earlier, please be safe out there on the streets!
Don’t forget about the poll over there to the right of the page –> Why do you run?
