Sowing Seeds Charity Bike Ride & Fun Run/Walk

The Lehigh Valley has experienced substantial growth in recent years, and as a consequence, the area has experienced a significant loss of our prime farmland. In order to reduce further loss of our prime farmland to development, we need a new crop of farmers who can operate profitable farms in a way that protects and enhances the natural resources of the rich farmland we have here in the Lehigh Valley.

To protect and preserve our farmland and agricultural heritage, Lehigh County has created an agricultural business incubator project called the Seed Farm, which is helping to train new farmers to establish new sustainable enterprises in the region. The Seed Farm, located on a 45 acres site in Upper Milford Township, will help ensure a source of healthy food for residents and revitalize the economy by facilitating the growth of a vibrant local food system.

To help promote the Seed Farm and its mission, the Wildlands Conservancy is holding the 4th Annual Sowing Seeds Charity Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, August 25th starting at the Seed Farm. The hope is that the event will not only raise funds to help establish the Seed Farm, but also engage the community and increase the visibility of local farmers.

Choose a bike ride of 10, 20 or 40 miles, or a 5k run on a cross-country course that weaves around the farm fields. Farm fresh food will be served to reward participants.

You will also have a chance to win a Giant Roam 2 bike and Burley flatbed trailer. Your registration includes one raffle ticket, you can purchase more tickets for $5 each online or at the Seed Farm stand at the Emmaus Farmers Market.

A farm fresh lunch prepared by the Brew Works will be available, as weill peach slushies from Pappy’s Orchard.
