Hydroworx Underwater Marathon

Galen Rupp training on Hydroworx underwater treadmill

In September the first ever underwater marathon will take place in Hershey, PA and you can register now to participate. Don’t let the fact that this inaugural event takes place at a brewery worry you. After all, we all know that running and beer often finds a way to co-mingle for us runners. If you’re wondering whether you’ll be running in vats of beer I can allay your fears (maybe they’re not fears) because I have it first-hand that this event will take place outdoors. The treadmills are actually self-contained pools/treadmills; fascinating enough that I want one.

I called Hydroworx last Friday and learned that the Hydroworx Underwater Marathon will be a family-friendly event in a very festive environment outside of Troegs Brewery. Runners can sign up as individuals or teams, and run either 5k, 10k, half marathon or marathon distances. Each distance has a specific fundraising goal with all monies raised going to the Eagle Fund which helps America’s wounded soldiers get the physical therapy and conditioning that they need and deserve.

There are different time slots to sign up for as well. The 1st slot is already sold out and a couple of spaces still remain in the second slot.

Hydroworx treadmills are sold to fitness and medical facilities, as well as many well-known sports teams across the country. In fact, Alan Webb, Mo Farah, Galen Rupp, and Kara Goucher, all Nike Oregon Project athletes, use the Hydroworx treadmill to increase their miles while reducing injury.

This is going to be an incredibly fun event, one that supports a fantastic and worthwhile cause. Recruit some friends, put together a team, and head out to the first-ever Underwater Marathon this September.
