Congratulations, Finishers of LVHN Marathon for Via

Now that the 2011 LVHN Marathon for Via is in the books, runners will have time to sit back and reflect on their race performances as they rest their bodies over the next couple of weeks. It turned out to be a great day for a race: overcast with mild temperatures, albeit a little humid.
As a result of the recent storms and flooding on the regular race route, race officials had to make some last minute course changes and recertify those sections in order for marathoner finishers’ times to be accepted as Boston qualifying times. This kept race officials busier than expected in the days leading up to the race. Course changes this year added some additional hills, both in the first and last legs of the race.
This year’s race happened to land on a very important anniversary for our country, the 10th anniversary of 9/11. There were several racers decked out in red, white and blue, but this guy [see photo below] really caught my eye. He ran the race carrying the Flag of Honor, a flag which lists the names of all those who perished on 9/11, including the planes, Pennsylvania, the Pentagon, and the World Trade Center.
I’d like to extend a huge congratulations to everyone who finished the marathon, relay, and half marathon. Recover well and be proud of your accomplishments!
