Noel LaBert
Resides in: Orwigsburg
Years running: 18 years
Bio: I’m 35 years old, a wife and a Mother to a 3 ½ year old. I’m currently a stay-at-home Mom. I come from a family of recreational runners. As a teenager, my parents would bug me to run with them, but I never had the desire. They encouraged me join the cross country team. I was a member of the team, but always finished in the back of the bunch.
I finally got the running bug in 1993 (when no one was forcing me to run!) just to stay in shape. I ran a few 5k and 10k races, but not consistently. I had my daughter in 2007. Soon after, I decided to become more involved in the running community by racing more and choosing longer distances. I finished my first half marathon in June of 2010 and followed it with another in September of 2010. I just finished the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February of 2011. My goal is to continue running all races and to run at least one marathon.
What do you enjoy most about running?
The opportunity to be alone to sort through thoughts/feelings. It is the BEST medicine. I can tackle anything after a good run.
What is your biggest running accomplishment and why?
Philadelphia Rock and Roll Half Marathon. I improved my time from my first half by 25 minutes. While training for this race, I learned the importance of strength training and speed workouts. I believe this race gave me the confidence to add longer runs and other activities like yoga and spinning to my fitness lifestyle.
Favorite race distance?
10k

What is the best piece of running advice you’ve ever received?
“Stick with it!” Given by my Cross Country Coach accompanied with a bottle of glue.
What is your favorite running mantra?
“I am strong….I AM STRONG….I AM getting stronger!
Do you have any running Heroes?
My parents, because they still manage to fit in their daily run. I’m also inspired by friend Tammy who convinced me to run my first 13.1.
Do you have any current running goals?
To become more involved in the running community by joining a running club. I would like to find a few running partners so I can begin training for a full marathon. I also hope to beat my half marathon time of 2 hours.
What are some things you’ve learned about yourself from running?
I’m much stronger than I thought.
What would your family and friends tell us about your passion for running?
She’s dedicated and it’s probably best to not talk to Noel until she’s had her daily run.
What is your best race experience?
Disney’s Princess Half Marathon! How can you beat running through Cinderella’s castle??!
What gets you excited about running?
New songs on my Ipod, new sneakers, new running attire and my nails have to be painted (preferably black or red).
Do you have a favorite race?
I have three! Kutztown “Fools Run” 10 miler, Disney Princess Half Marathon, 5 miler Christmas City Classic
