Southern Lehigh School District is excited to announce the 2010 Tri-a-Biathlon Challenge. Summer is a great opportunity for Southern Lehigh students to get out and exercise with their classmates and teachers. The Biathlon is a bike/run race. Grades 3-12 will bike 4 miles and grades 3-6 will run 1.5 miles; 7-8 2.5 miles and 9-12 will run a 5K. We are happy to announce, too, that we will have obstacle courses/races for elementary school age (K-3) students. It’s going to be a morning of fun and fitness for all!
In addition to the race, our teachers and staff are participating in the Mentorship Program for our students. This new and innovative program was created to support and train all athletes for the upcoming race. Particpants meet one hour per week and prepare themselves and the students for the Challenge.
The event is on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 8 am and will begin at the Intermediate School and finish at Southern Lehigh football stadium. The mentors will participate in the finale with an exciting 1 mile race. Following the Challenge, we will have the winners of each grade announced at “NeighborFest” at Upper Saucon Township Park later that day. Please encourage your child to participate in this event. The cost is $20, which will benefit Southern Lehigh Education Foundation (SLEF) and raise awareness of the devastating effects of childhood obesity. Join our school and our community in this monumental event.
Please contact Jennifer Wescoe-Schaninger ( 484-553-6340) or Trish Colasurdo (484-225-3048) for further details.

I’m hoping my daughter will do the free obstacle course, for the younger kids. Anyone else going?
