September already! It looks like there are some very exciting events coming up in the next month. Some of you are training hard for you first one mile race, 5k, half marathon or marathon; others are training for their 10th or more race. But I see everyone out there running and staying fit which is what I love most! I have spotted a huge number of women over at Lehigh Parkway on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings as part of First Strides. Best of luck to all of you with your training!

Lehigh Valley Beer Run Club
Cara Crumbliss recently moved to the area and was looking for a social running club in line with heading out for a run and then going for a few beers afterward. She didn’t have much luck finding a running club like this in the area and decided to start her own. Well done Cara! This Wednesday, September 1st is the inaugural beer run for her new running club, Lehigh Valley Beer Run Club. Meet at 7:00 pm in the hallway outside of Aardvark Sports Shop in Bethlehem. The run will finish up where it began and everyone can head over to Bethlehem Brew Works for some post-run libations. The club plans to do these runs every other Wednesday. Race Results
With 385 finishers in the 5K and nearly 100 walkers in the 1 miler it was a record field for the 2nd annual run nearly doubling last year’s numbers.  24 year old overall winner Ian Walsh of Slatington finished in a record time of 17:07 and over all female 28 year old Kacie Aristide finished in 19:51.  Male masters 43 year old Steve Budlong finished in 19:15 and Female master 50 year old Gert Freas finished in 21:29.

LV Zoo CEO, Richard Molchany, stated, “We could not have asked for a more perfect day.
This weekend was a total success for the LV Zoo with two spectacular back to back events.”

Giveaway Contest
Don’t forget the weekly giveaway contest and your chance to win a free race entry to the Hamilton Street Mile. We’ve had two winners so far, Michael Womelsdor and Courtney Landau. Three more winners will be drawn before the race which takes place on Thursday, September 23rd. So far this week there is only one entry!!

Roll call
If you are heading to Reading to run the Labor Pain 12 hour ultra this Sunday, I want to know! I’ll be there and would love to meet you, if I haven’t already. While I’m not quite crazy enough to run the ultra solo, I will be running it as part of a relay team along with three friends. We can be spotted in maroon shirts and are called Los Cuatros Locos. Good luck everyone!

Weekend Races
Summer is almost gone and it’s hard to believe that this coming weekend is already celebrating Labor Day. Not only will Labor Pain be taking place but two local races: Ashly’s Race and Run for the Ribbon, both supporting great local causes.

Ashly’s race is a 5k which will take place on Saturday in Lehigh Parkway and is in celebration of Ashly Moyer who lost her life in Baghdad while serving her country. A portion of the proceeds from the race will benefit the “Ashly Moyer Memorial Scholarship Fund”, established at Emmaus High School, Ashly’s alma mater. The majority of the proceeds will be donated to The Lehigh Valley Blue Star Mothers, a group that supports our troops and veterans.

Run for the Ribbon is also a 5k which will take place in Bethlehem on Monday, September 6th. The run will start at Northampton Community College and run through the campus of Moravian Academy. There is also a 1 mile walk. Proceeds go to the St. Luke’s Cancer Center in Bethlehem.

Taper Question
If you haven’t stopped by the LVRS Facebook page lately, please do. Debi Golbreski asked a question about tapering and whether or not she should add this to the end of her training since she has never done so before. Weigh in with your thoughts.

Energy Bars
I found this recently and thought I’d pass it along  … you can make your own energy bars at Element Barswww.elementbars.com. Check it out.

Hi Jill! I will look for you and your team at the Labor Pain…I have some nutty idea that I can do 50 miles. Seems nuttier every time I say that! We shall see…

I will be in my usual NF Endurance Neon.
