Registration for the Steamtown Marathon is now closed. The race reached it’s capacity of 2500 runners yesterday. Yet another race which filled up quickly.
From Assistant Race Director Jim Cummings:

“Registration for the 2010 Steamtown Marathon is now closed. On July 19, for the first time in our 15 year history, we reached our maximum capacity of 2,500 entrants. We set the 2,500 limit out of consideration of the health and safety of our runners and to maintain the standard of quality we have set for the event. Thank you for your understanding.”

It’s a pretty slow week in the valley as far as racing is concerned. Looks like the slew of races last weekend exhausted everyone. You can always jump in with one of the groups running this week or bring your kids to Lehigh Parkway on Saturday for the second to last Kids Race. These races are always a fun way to spend your Saturday morning and what a wonderful gift of exercise you are giving to your children. Remember – volunteers are always needed.

Tomorrow is the South Mountain Cycles 2-5-10 Challenge. Meet at South Mt. Cycles at 6:45 am (challenge begins at 7:00 am) either on foot or with your bike and plan to do as many of the 10 mile loops as possible. You can read more about the challenge here.

Why not head over to The Finish Line Running Store in Emmaus later today for a group run! The group leaves at 6:00 pm for an easy run through Emmaus. All paces are welcome and no one will be left behind.

This week’s LVRR sponsored Healthy Kids Active Playdate will take place on Thursday, July 22nd at 1:00 pm. Meet in the parking lot at Alpine Street in Emmaus and hike to the historic 1803 House for a tour of the property before returning to the parking lot and playground.

Don’t forget to enter this week’s Giveaway Contest to win four free park passes to Hershey Park. The giveaway is sponsored by the Hershey Half Marathon, a new race which will benefit Muscular Dystrophy. The race will be held on October 3, 2010.
