Giveaway Contest
In my search for a fall half marathon I was turned onto a brand new race to the area, thank you Laura Yasso.
The Hershey Half Marathon takes place on October 3rd which in my mind is a perfectly
timed event – directly after September’s Indian Summer and right before the cold snaps hit. Imagine if you will, running through the land of chocolate with a chocolate aid station around mile 12 to boot. Fueled by chocolate scented air, runners will make their way through Chocolate Town USA and portions of the amusement park. But it’s not all chocolatey sweetness during the race. Rest assured you will be challenged by some of the rolling hills surrounding Hershey Park. I’ve been told this is a beautiful course and cannot wait to check it out myself.
There is also a half marathon relay. Two people per team and each will run a leg. Sounds like a great alternative to those not quite up to the challenge of 13.1 miles. Did I forget to mention that included in your race entry is a Hersheypark Half-Park pass for you and your family? Enjoy the rides and attractions from 6-9 pm on October 2nd at Hershey Park. (Half-Park means that the water park is closed and only the non-water rides will be open.)
Hershey Half Marathon is accepting 2,500 runners in it’s inaugural year and registration has already broken 1,000 so now is the time to add this event to your race calendar. Visit the Hershey Half Marathon website to register today.

Proceeds from the race benefit the Children’s Miracle Network which supports Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. The Children’s Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization that has affiliations with 170 children’s hospitals. Each year funds raised through the Children’s Miracle Network are allocated to purchase life-saving pieces of equipment at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. Over the past three years, CMN allocated funds to the Penn State Hershey Simulation Center to purchase a baby patient simulator and a five-year-old patient simulator. You can read more about this here.
And now to the contest …

The trail is basically flat, approximately 15 feet wide, and recently resurface with fine crushed stone. There is a slight upgrade going northward and a slight downgrade for the return and finish. The run is a great tune-up for those training for the Steamtown Marathon and a great race for those attempting longer distance runs. All finishers will receive a D&H Distance pin.
