Summer Afternoon Hikes with LVRR

Yesterday afternoon I headed out to Lehigh Parkway to meet up with other parents and their children for the very first LVRR Healthy Kids Active Playdate. The purpose behind the meetup is to get kids outside, active by running & walking, and enjoying themselves as they exercise. We met up at the Fish Hatchery just past lunch-time armed with sunscreen and water bottles. Seven parents and 16 children were ready to get moving.
We set off attacking the hill behind the Fish Hatchery, the kids did great hiking up that incline and then had fun running down the other side of the hill. As we passed under the 24th Street Bridge we were treated to a deer spotting which had the kids very excited. We then enjoyed some time cooling off and dipping our toes in the creek before setting off down the trail again.

Our hike continued to Bogert’s Bridge where we followed the path back to the Fish Hatchery. Just as we finished our hike we were treated to a quick sprinkling from the sky which cooled us off from the heat of the day. What a perfect way to get kids moving on a summer day!

Next week’s hike will be on the trails at South Mountain in Emmaus.
Meet up Thursday, July 1st at 1:00 pm in the parking lot on Alpine Street in Emmaus.

Thanks for the write-up, Jill. It was a good time and I can’t wait for Thursday’s hike on SM. Your map link is perfect.
