All proceeds benefit The Caring Place
The Caring Place is a youth development center that reaches out to at risk inner city youths. Programs are focused on building self-esteem, confidence, increasing education potential and providing a positive & motivational supportive environment. Programming includes after-school activities and tutoring, mentoring, a science lab, college tour program, sign language, garden program, field trips, entrepreneur program and summer youth programs. The Caring Place also collects food for families in need, runs a mobile dental unit staffed with a dentist, hygienist and dental assistant, offers medical care, and much more. Check out their website at www.thecaringplace.org.
Recently, a large amount of funding was lost due a problem in filing for a substantial grant. This caused the center to close its doors which leaves many children at risk for becoming entangled in the unfortunate problems of drugs, gangs and violence. Mary Ellen Griffin, founder of The Caring Center, is dedicated to reopening her center very soon. She is moving forward with her plans to open a commercial kitchen which will provide a stable source of revenue for The Caring Place. It will also create opportunities to teach good nutrition and food preparation to children as well as healthy cooking classes and budget-wise meal planning for local families. The Kids Duathlon on July 9th is a fundraising event for The Caring Place, all proceeds of which go directly to TCP and the families it strives to serve.

Jill, Thanks for putting this out there. I wouldn’t have know about it otherwise. Will def try to get Lydia interested in it and will make a door prize donation for a massage.

All kids will receive a race shirt and participation medal. If you register by June 28th, your shirt will be guaranteed for race day. After that, we will do our best to have it race day and mail out shirts and medals to those who register late or race day ($5 postage fee) or they will be avaiable for pickup at The Caring Place (no extra charge).
