Sauerkraut Anyone?
1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut Marathon & Half Marathon
Sunday, June 13th
Start time: 8:00 am
Limited to 750 runners
I first heard about this race from a friend. He must have a radar for all the new races that show up on the scene because he’s always alerting me to them. Seriously folks, how can you possibly go wrong with a race named 1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut? Especially living in an area as rich in German history as ours. As a lifelong resident of eastern Pennsylvania with a PA German (or Dutch as the locals say) heritage on my father’s side this race struck a cord.
1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut
Listed on the race application:
Zenzi, the Bavarian waitress, will hand out gels at the 12 & 20 mile mark.
How fun is that?!?
… and you will be fed by 2 professional chefs at the post race festivities
No bananas and bagels here. After the race it’s time to party!
Hans will entertain you with his accordion.
How apropos! It even gets better …
Oktoberfest Aid Stations will be located at miles 10.5 and 24.7. This aid station will feature numerous pastries (and alternative energy drink upon request).
My mouth is already watering!
Fluid Stations will be located approximately 2 miles apart. Heet by Hammer will be available at the Fluid Stations. An alternative (energy) drink is also available at a certain themed Fluid Station upon request. (I can’t disclose any further details).
Notice the use of the word “alternative”.
I don’t know about you guys but this sounds like a very fun race.
And if all the above fun isn’t already enough to twist your arm, check this out in regards to registration:
May 1-31: We can defer your entry into the 2011 race or transfer your entry to someone, who want to run in place of you ($10 processing fee applies)
Who does this? No one! I really like the whole idea behind this race which is to bring people together for a good time and then hang out afterwards for some good German fun.

One more thing, the charity conscious race directors will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Toys for Tots.
Be sure to check out the website at www.uberendurancesports.com.

This race sounds ridiculously fun! The entry fee is crazy low, too. Yay for a local June marathon!
